Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Parents Association would like to welcome you back to another exciting year at PS 139! We have a strong Executive Board and committed Committee Chairs that can’t wait to get things started. We have some new and exciting fundraisers and we have already hit the ground running! On September 12, your students will enjoy an assembly given by our brand new candy and gift sale company, Reader’s Digest. Each student will bring home a package with detailed information and a sales catalog – we were all impressed by this new company and we are sure you will be too! We are also introducing two new fundraising opportunities at PS 139, the first being a School Cookbook. This cookbook will be made up of recipes from you and will reflect our immense diversity – we can’t wait to see all of the recipes submitted from around the world! Our second new fundraising idea came from staff member, Diane Dougherty; Themed Gift Baskets. Each class will choose a theme and fill the basket with items donated by students that will be auctioned off before the holidays. Prizes will be given out for the most original, highest bidder, biggest basket, etc.

We will also have another great year of events and volunteer opportunities. Our first event will be the 2nd Annual Big Guy BBQ. This event was so much fun last year that we can’t wait to see what happens this year so….don’t put the grills away yet! This event is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, 2007 – a flyer and sign up sheet will go home in backpacks.

We have a few committees looking for members to begin planning for this year, if you are interested please contact the chairperson or you can fill the volunteer opportunity form that will be coming home with the PA Welcome Newsletter and a detailed description of each committee. They are: Lunchroom/Playground Committee (Martina Neverman-Chair), Gardening Committee (Susannah Laskaris-Chair), Mini School Committee (Michelle Benoit-Chair), 5th Grade Committee ( Natasha Walker-Chair) and Cookbook Committee (Christine Siracusa-Chair). We are still looking for chairpersons and members for our Music, Arts and Culture Committee, Newsletter Committee, Eagle Class Committee, General Education Class Committee, Fright Night Planning Committee, and Holiday/Craft Fair Planning Committee.
